Some personal work

Hello everyone! I hope my last post didn't put you to sleep! Well this time around I will be posting some pictures instead, mainly work I have done on my spare time since I parted off from uni.

On my quest to become a concept artist (one day..) I do little bits of concepting here and there, to be fair I barely keep any of the projects because I am not happy with them.

The image above though was an experiment I did after watching Feng Zhu's Design Cinema ep 70. The main idea is to pick a scene of an old game and carry out a re-design. It was pretty fun and I really enjoyed integrating photo textures onto my own painting!

Next is an entry for a fan art challenge which I actually won! The character belongs to Clash of Lords 2 by IGG and my idea was to make a more realistic version of this hero. I got a lot of support and compliments for it which has made me more confident to show my work on public sites.

The last two pictures are speed paintings I have done since I joined the daily spitpaint facebook page. Everyday they post four different topics and we have 30 min to come up with something (no photo textures allowed). I kind of like it. It gets me into the habit of generating ideas fast and producing something within a time budget.

Right now I am working over the fundamentals of drawing which I will be showing you guys on my next post, possibly...

On a side note, I just passed my red stripe TKD grading! Only two more gradings for black belt!

Until next time!

Books and art

Today it's been a typical english grey day and as soon as I woke up I just wanted to go back to sleep, curl into a ball and wait for the sun but I didn't feel sleepy anymore so I ended up getting up regardless of the awful day.

While having breakfast I thought of going to the Uni's library to look for a couple of interesting books about colour theory as I struggle in that aspect. It turns out the library closed earlier today so I went into town instead and I bought a nice little book about color and a 3D magazine.

The book is very interesting as it explains how the different colours of the visible light spectrum are seen by different cultures and their different meanings.

The mazagine was quite educational, specially regarding ZBrush which I have never used before and I'd like to use soon.

Therefore I am inspired and intimidated at the same time. There are so many amazing people in this industry...I really can't wait until I can reach their level.

Also, today I finished a character painting I have been doing from time to time during the last few days. It was meant to be a steam punk design but I am not too sure I acomplished that...regardless I am happy with it!

Concept art

Daily painting: Day 7

Hello! I finally have wi-fi in the new place! Not that it matters though...
These past few days I have been practicing conceptual art since my biggest ambition is to become a concept artist. It would be my dream job...

I can't wait to be back at uni since this second year we'll be going in depth on digital painting! I am really excited about it.

I have been working on this for four days I think and it has changed so much! At first it wasn't even a conceptual painting but then it gradually turned into this.
I am still working on it and hopefully I'll finish it by the end of the weekend (fingers crossed).

Also, I started a second project and this is the initial sketch:

Bye Bye,

Brazil

Daily painting: Day 5

Hello! These past few days haven't been very eventful although yesterday I helped at the university open day. It was quite nice to talk to most likely "new first years" in the Game art course. Also, the lecturer was one of our visual design tutors so he gave me good tips in terms of getting started on a conceptual drawing/painting. Therefore I feel quite happy at the moment.

Also, the world cup is ending and sadly Spain didn't get as far as I wanted them to....but because everyone is very excited about the whole event I decided to paint something related to the world cup.

It took me about 2 days to complete even though it is quite rough...
I used references for the buildings as I can't draw those sort of things from imagination just yet.
Practise, practise, practise!

A bad day

Daily painting: day 4

For two days I have not been able to produce any work of art. Anything I drew or painted looked horrible. I just couldn't do any art.
Out of frustration I just strated splashing watercolours into a page and this is the result of my feelings at that time.

After I finished this painting I felt very relaxed and even though I wasn't in the mood to paint anything else, it helped me to regain peace of mind.

It is funny to think that the only way to "cure" myself from a bad art day is to do art.

Winter woods

Daily painting: Day 3

This painting started as a ballerina but when I added the mask something else invaded my mind and this is the result. I'd say I took inspiration on the japanese folk tale yuki no onna (the snow woman).

P.S  Today i found out I passed my first year of uni! The grades where not as good as I wanted them to be which makes me sad and determined to get a better grade.

I think of this first year as a learning experience, I learned to know myself and I am ready to take next year challenge and give a 100%.

Under the sea

Daily painting: Day 1

This actually took me about 3 days to complete but I still managed to finish it fairly quickly. This is a remake of my reef character as I didn't like the old one that much..
